Purpose
The
Peace Garden is a productive outlet
for elderly members of the Korean community
who may experience isolation due to
cultural / language barriers, or lack
of transportation. Gardening is a positive
way for many Korean elderly to reconnect
with their rural roots, while fostering
physical, mental, and spiritual health.
Location
The
30,000 sq foot Peace Garden is located
off the intersection of I-94 and Cedar
Avenue.
About
the Peace Garden
Currently
over 40 members of the Korean Community
cultivate the Peace Garden. They grow
Napa Cabbage, greens, sesame leaves,
pepper, bellflower, mountain herbs,
mugwort, chives, green onions, garlic,
chrysanthemum leaves, and lettuce.
The
State of Minnesota, the City of Minneapolis,
the Municipal Housing Authority, and
other public organizations have all
contributed to the establishment and
maintenance of the Peace Garden. In
2006, the Peace Garden was recognized
by the International Community Garden
Convention, bringing international recognition
to the city of Minneapolis.
